My vision for the Haus of Cats
Last week I sent out an audience survey to my email list, and the results were ILLUMINATING! It made me realise that as I’ve been through so many rapid evolutions and iterations over the last two/three years it would probably be to good to pause, and talk about what I’m doing here.
Y’know, what the Haus of Cats actually is, and my vision for it moving forward.
A lot of you have joined me during various different iterations of what this has become, and I think it's time to be crystal clear about what my vision for this space is - and who it's really for.
What is the Haus of Cats?
Depending on how much you’re paying attention (😜) you probably know that all of my work celebrates otherness in some way - not just my paintings, but the entire world I'm building here.
A world where we explore how we figure out who we are, how we communicate that to the world, how we find our people, and how we move through the world in a way that actually makes sense.
One of the things that I’ve discovered from the survey, and from the conversations I’ve had around my work lately, is that one of my strengths is serving as a model for what it looks like to live a joyful life as a marginalised person.
I’m on this journey myself, and the most compelling and useful tool I’ve found to make sense of it all is through stories. The art, books, films, and ideas from other misfits, freaks, and weirdos who are asking the same questions - which is why I share them with you alongside my own stories.
Without wanting to sound too over the top, the Haus of Cats is becoming a whole ecosystem for examining the culture of difference.
What this means practically:
My newsletters will continue as they have been - Personal, conversational explorations of identity, communication, community, and navigating the world as someone who's always felt other, alongside behind-the-scenes snippets of the work I’m making myself. These themes run through everything - my art, my writing, my curation, my life. (If you’re not already signed up you can do that here).
I'm curating the ‘culture of difference’ for you - Books, films, music, podcasts, art, articles, and more that grapple with these same questions. Stuff that matters to misfits, freaks and weirdos trying to figure out how to be themselves in a world that wasn't built for them.
I’m still offering my art for sale - But when I do, expect more art! I’ll be doing a lot more things like the recent treasure hunt campaign for The Flourishing collection. Storytelling, mystery, something you participate in rather than just consume. Because how we share art is part of the art.
YouTube is evolving - Less process videos, more lifestyle vlogs, ideas and cultural commentary and whatever emerges when I'm thinking about identity, communication, and community. I’ll even be archiving a few of my most process-focused videos (they’ll still be visible on the website though).
The podcast is taking a break until 2026 - When it returns, it'll probably be a bit different. We’ll see when we get there.
Who is this all for?
This is for people wrestling with the same questions I am:
How do I figure out who I actually am beneath all the masks?
How do I communicate my authentic self to others?
How do I find my people and build real community?
How do I move joyfully through a world that wasn't designed for people like me?
If you're neurodivergent, queer, or you just feel out of step with the world (like me!) - if these questions matter to you - then you're in exactly the right place.
If you're excited about what I’m doing, and you want to stick around...
Then welcome to what's happening next! I'm going all in on examining what it means to be fully yourself in a world that constantly asks you to be someone else. And I'm so glad you're along for the ride.
If you want to support the Haus and go deeper into this weird little world we're building together, then you can find out how to do that here.
Thank you for being here, for being you, and for reading this far.
With love and gratitude,
Zuzu xx
P.S. - If you're thinking "YES, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT" then please email me and let me know. I love hearing from you.
