The weeks that were: May 4th - 16th
OMG CATSSSSS!!!
Working on…
It’s very hard to work on stuff with new kittens in the house!! Most of my time this week has been spent working from my bedroom and trying to be chill enough that they come and hang out with me.
I have been shuffling forward with my next art book, though, which will be all about the story of The Flourishing collection. It’s looking beautiful so far and I can’t wait to share it with you all!
On the YouTube front, now I’m done with the big clothes-as-identity video (or as Lars put it: “You can’t just make a fucking outfit of the day video, can you?” 🤣), work has begun on the ‘how I get things done’ video (thank you so much to everyone who emailed me about this! Apparently you’re really into knowing how shit gets done around here 😜)
And of course the making-art-of-little-consequence train keeps chugging along, and gradually I’m getting back into a groove with it again. I’m so enjoying just playing with art-making as and when the fancy takes me.
Thinking about…
Bodies, bodies, bodies. This compost heap of idea fragments is getting bigger by the day, and the bodies theme is fully Baader-Meinhofing me. Last week we went to see a D&D-themed burlesque show (called Goblins and Garterbelts) and it was glorious to see bodies of all flavours - fat bodies, old bodies, trans bodies, hairy bodies, hobbit bodies (I kid you not) - not only being celebrated, but also being allowed to be sexy, beautiful, desirable. The screams, the cheers, the swooning - the audience was so on board for every single performer and it was an utter delight to witness.
Reading…
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
After loving The Night Circus so wholeheartedly, I was prepared for this one to disappoint me, but I ended up loving it almost as much! There was something about the ending that didn’t quite land for me, but the whole way through I was captivated. There’s something about the texture of her books which just does it for me. Highly recommended - especially if you love stories about stories.
Watching…
This week we finally got around to catching up with the first season of The Celebrity Traitors (UK edition) - and woof! As someone who has spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out How To Human (yay - ‘tism) this show chills me to the very bone. The randomness of the reasoning, the ‘vibes’-based decision-making, the flagrant misuse of the word ‘evidence’, the mob mentality - argh! Makes for some bloody compelling telly, though!
