Autumn equinox? Already?

The weeks that were Aug 23rd - Sep 5th

Working on…

The Autumn Equinox is almost upon us, which means I’ve been cooking up a brand new zine for the Friends of The Haus! This is always one of my favourite projects to work on, and of course, I’ve filmed the whole process for you as well (stay tuned for that video in a couple of weeks).

I've also started working on photoshoots, videos, and more for a secret project that'll be revealed in a couple of months, and I am positively giddy about it. If you loved last year's Flourishing treasure hunt, you'll lose your mind for this. Watch this space.

Thinking about…

I fucking love my job, but wow it's brutal out there for artists. Especially those of us running our little independent ships. Getting eyeballs on good work has never been harder or more frustrating, and all the systems we've come to rely on to find our people are in free fall (goddamn I miss the old internet).

Rejection, frustration, and disappointment have always gone hand in hand with creative work (to be a professional creative you have to have something of a masochistic streak), but at this current moment in history it seems to be at an all time high. It's an interesting time, because the old ways are dying and the new ways are yet to be born, so we're all stuck in limbo. Which means (as my dear friend Rachel always says) that "human is the only move left".

Reading…

Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves by Sophie Gilbert

Woof, this was something of a brutal read albeit utterly fascinating. It’s an exploration of the weird regression in feminism that happened at the turn of the century, and how that’s shaped the last 30 years. I don’t know if I can say I enjoyed reading it, but I’m glad I did.

Watching…

Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)

A friend reminded me that this absolute fucking masterpiece exists and then I had the intense pleasure of getting to watch it all over again. Not to oversell it, but Bo Burnham is a genius and the pandemic was worth it for this extraordinary piece of art. If you haven’t seen it yet, you lucky lucky bastard, and if you have, do yourself a favour and go rewatch. You’re welcome.
