Birthday flamingos!

Working on…

It’s been my birthday this week so I have been flagrantly shirking all of my responsibilities and doing very little, except that my brain is always on so I’ve also been planning and plotting and dreaming and scheming.

I have prepared a little birthday celebration for you all, though. Starting tomorrow at 9pm CEST I’m running a sale! 45% off all original artwork, for 45 hours, to celebrate my 45th birthday - hurrah! I very rarely (if ever) do sales, so if you’ve had your eye on something this is an excellent time to go for it. Keep an eye on your inbox because I’ll be sending out an email tomorrow when it goes live.

Thinking about…

Making the next zine for Friends of The Haus! I had such a hoot making the FOTH seasonal recommendations in digital zine form for spring (you can see a video of me making that here), that I’ve decided to do it again for the summer solstice edition. I won’t spill the beans about what the theme is for the next edition, but I have some really fun ideas - including a trip to the beach for materials… If you want your own copy then now’s a great time to sign up and become a Friend yourself.

Reading…

Bat Eaterby Kylie Lee Baker

I’m not usually a fan of covid-related stories, but this one was really special. It’s ostensibly a serial killer story with a supernatural element, but really it’s about grief and loneliness and trauma. Okay, I’m aware it sounds bleak as fuck but I was utterly captivated by it and found Cora (our protagonist) extremely compelling and relatable.

Watching…

Death Warrant

I have a weakness for 80s and early 90s action movies. Arnie, Sylvester, Kurt - testosterone a go-go, I love them. This one, from 1990, was recommended as being one of the more ‘woke’ offerings of its genre, and whilst it definitely wasn’t perfect, it handled its black and trans characters with self-awareness and grace. And then unfortunately killed most of them off. Like I said - not perfect. Cracking movie, though - and an excellent example of why you really don’t need 3 sodding hours to tell a great story.
