The week that was: Aug 10th-16th
From the seafront in Lisbon - the dolphin! The crab! The MERMAID!
Working on…
Figuring out how to do my job again after 3 weeks away! And also what’s going to happen over the rest of the year (and beyond). I’ve known for a while that I wanted to expand my product range beyond just selling artwork, and having a bit of time away has gotten my brain firing on all cylinders again. I have some really cool ideas I cannot wait to start working on, once my current projects are wrapped up (I’m so close now!).
Thinking about…
Chosen family, and how you never know when you’re going to meet someone wonderful. I’ve struggled for most of my life to have good, healthy friendships, and my relationship with my family is not the easiest. But catching up with my peeps this week (both locally and internationally) made me realise that I have actually nailed this part of my life! The caliber of the people around me is stupendous and I am beyond grateful. I never thought I would be lucky enough to have so many people to love, who love me back.
I say this not to brag, but (hopefully) to reassure any of you out there who might be feeling isolated or are navigating difficult family relationships that there is hope. You haven’t yet met all the people who will love you.
Reading…
Fabric: The Hidden History of The Material World by Victoria Finlay
The best book I read on my hols (I love her other books too), with Stone Blind: Medusa’s Story by Natalie Haynes coming in a close second.
Watching…
Holy shit. This documentary follows Russian performance artist and LGBT activist Gena Marvin as she risks her life performing her art in Moscow as a form of protest. I had my heart in my mouth the whole way through. Highly recommended.
Listening to…
I’ve been listing a lot of stuff on Vinted this week, and this show has been my constant companion whilst I complete the unutterably tedious tasks of photographing and uploading items. It’s so comforting and funny.
